ABOUT LAKE COMO
Lago di Como is in Northern Italy, and it is a gorgeous area in the Lombardy region. It’s known for its jaw-dropping natural beauty, prestigious Villas and scenic towns around the lake like Varenna, Bellagio, Como or Menaggio.
With its dramatic views of the Alps, historical churches and colorful villages, it’s perfect for an elopement or any romantic getaway.
It’s also on my top 10 list for elopements and listed in my award-winning book “Italy, a Romantic Journey” as one of my top 10 favorite places in Italy.
The whole area is incredibly romantic and perfect if you can extend your stay and visit nearby areas like Switzerland, or other regions throughout Italy.
Lake Como is about a 1/2 drive from Milan. You can also take a train and then take the “Battello” a ferry, or a private boat to get to towns. The Lake is shaped like an upside-down letter “Y” and it’s been a popular retreat since Roman times with many artistic and cultural gems.
ELOPE IN LAKE COMO, ITALY (real-life Lake Como Elopement)
Let me show you a few highlights of Sarah & Craig’s Lake Como Elopement. They originally wanted a large wedding in Newport Rhode Island where they both live.
But once they started planning, they soon decided on a destination elopement as it was more of their style. Having been too many of their friend’s large scale weddings they soon decided that whole traditional wedding scene really wasn’t their vibe.
They often heard couple’s comments who had a traditional wedding that they weren’t able to enjoy their big day and exhausted after they spent a year whole year planning. Sarah began researching the possibility of planning a destination elopement and came across my work.
She soon realized it was possible and yes, why not get get married in the most beautiful place in the world? For example, Lake Como?
We then designed her big day and everything soon fell into place. I helped her create her dream team and her dream elopement day and decided on a small intimate setting with just their family present.
Together we created their itinerary from getting ready at their Hotel, to the ceremony at Villa Balbianello, their newly portraits and a fun boat ride ending with a romantic dinner on the lake at sunset.
What inspired their day?
Craig and Sarah both love to travel and explore new places so an intimate destination elopement was perfect for them. Both of them are members of Newport’s Historical Society and they enjoy touring historical buildings places.
They also love to spend a lot of time hiking with their dogs around lakes and mountains.
That is why they choose Lake Como and Villa Balbianello as a setting!
Sarah’s advise for other brides who are thinking of eloping?
Sarah recommends choosing a team of professionals you like and trust and then take their advise and recommendations.
With a good team, everything will turn out perfectly and you’ll less stress with the planning.
(You can see this video on choosing an ideal team for your elopement}
Sarah claims she is usually a type A personality and likes to have control over everything.
But when it came to her elopement, she wisely hired a few people and when her wedding day came, she simply sat back and enjoyed the day.
