Exploring a new place is incredibly exciting, but to enjoy it fully, you’ll need to be prepared.
Here are a Few travel tips to help you with your destination elopement
1. Plan ahead – at least six months in advance.
You’ll get better prices on your flights, train tickets and boat rides, and you’ll be sure of booking the best possible accommodations. You’ll have researched cultural attractions, side trips, shopping, restaurants — everything you need to make your trip the best it can be.
2. For your destination elopement, try to pack as little as you can.
Unless you plan to stay in the same place for the entire trip, you won’t want to be dragging a lot of luggage with you. It’s cumbersome, and you’ll find you really don’t need a lot of changes of clothing. One nightgown, a few tops and pants or skirts, just one dress for evenings out. Leave your heavy bottles at home, and travel with sample sizes, or pour your shampoo and body lotion into smaller bottles.
3. If you plan to check luggage, keep all indispensable items in your carry-on.
That includes your wedding dress and important documents.
4. Don’t forget to bring adapter plugs.
Most of your devices will automatically convert from US to foreign currents, but the plugs are always different. Find out which plugs you need and pack accordingly.
5. Your mobile phone.
Make sure you have tons of memory and backup. Get an international plan for your phone. I personally like T-Mobile.
Make sure you have great battery life. You’ll end up using Google maps a lot, which is an energy monster, and you may use your phone as your primary camera. Think about using an online storage system like iCloud or Google photo.
6. Look for non-touristy locations.
Avoid restaurants near popular attractions. Get off the beaten track, and follow the locals. The best restaurants and shops are often in residential neighborhoods.
These are just some of the many tips you’ll find in my online course, DESIGNING YOUR DREAM ELOPEMENT, which includes videos, worksheets and travel planner.
