The Enchanting Island of Santorini

The Enchanting Greek Island of Santorini

Back in September, I photographed a destination wedding in Oia, Santorini. It was an intimate elopement of a lovely couple from Santa Barbara, California. They married in a Hotel they stayed at which boasts a beautiful terrace that overlooks the sea. As you can imagine, the wedding was postcard perfect. With the breathtaking landscape and the soft sea breeze rippling throughout, the entire event looked like it spilled out of a dream.

As a wedding photographer, I have gone to a number of popular destination wedding locations around the world. But one that I think particularly deserves the hype is Santorini. And ever since that elopement I photographed, it has become one of my favorite places to shoot weddings at.

For a tiny island, Santorini surprisingly offers a lot to visitors—especially to couples looking to tie the knot together. Oia is particularly a must-see. Characterized by the iconic blue domes and flights of bleached stairs, this town houses a maze of interesting boutiques and quaint restaurants visitors can immerse themselves in. Of course, it’s also a dreamy place to have a destination wedding. The idyllic architecture works as a stunning backdrop for wedding photography and lends a romantic mood perfect for your big day.

Then, there are the beaches of Santorini. You’re spoilt with choice here: Amoudi Bay is a charming little beach decked with colorful boats. But if you want something more unique for your wedding photos, the rusty shores of Red Beach is worth visiting. The contrast of the copper sand and cobalt sea is stunning, to say the least. You can also book a boat ride and cruise into the sunset to top off your Santorini experience.

From the stunning sunsets, to the winding streets, to the zesty food, there’s a lot to explore here.
The place can get swamped with tourists for sure, but that doesn’t make it any less ideal for a wedding. My advise would be to go in early Spring or Autumn. All you need is a streamlined plan for your big day. I primarily capture intimate weddings and elopements, and if you’re interested in having a destination wedding in Santorini or throughout Greece, I will be happy to help you design big day. I can refer you to great vendors, venues and if needed also local wedding planners to fine tune your intimate wedding.
