In this post, I'll be sharing Arabel's lifestyle portraits captured in beautiful Torrey Pines, in North County. As a photographer in Southern California, I have the great pleasure of capturing San Diego family portraits and high school seniors.
Gone are “classical portraits” where everyone is perfectly posed and looking straight into the camera.
They’re stiff portraits, or what I call “pretty but empty photographs.”
Lifestyle portrait photography is about capturing a slice of real-life with an artistic touch. It captures real life moments and milestones.
When creating lifestyle portrait session, I always ask whoever I’m photographing what do you like to do? Where do you feel comfortable? What are your favorite colors? Along with other questions to get to know their personalities.
Then we plan the shoot, choose the location around their likes and dislikes.
Then I artistically construct what I want to the scene to look like, the right backdrop, the right light, but the person will infuse the scene with their unique personality.
And when shooting, I’ll give natural prompts to encourage natural movement, and a natural engagement.
I’ll look for things they naturally do, study their natural body language and incorporate them.
This is Arabel. She turns 18 next week and is starting a new chapter in her life as she soon heads to College.
