The Gorgeous Grand Del Mar
in San Diego, California – A perfect venue for a wedding or elopement
Almost everyone agrees that being near the ocean embodies a certain romance. Some places, like Southern California, make us fall even more in love. So-Cal has it all, the white sandy beaches, the Pacific Ocean, 70 degree weather ALL YEAR LONG. Imagine walking hand in hand at sunset on one of San Diego’s iconic beaches.
If you’re looking for the perfect Romantic Getaway for your wedding, I would seriously consider the Fairmont at Del Mar., a hidden gem in San Diego with impeccable service.
The Fairmont oozes romance and elegance. The European-inspired estate has drop-dead gorgeous backdrops and facilities to accommodate your romantic elopement. With over 400 acres, and only five miles from the Pacific Ocean the Fairmont is unbeatable. Think lush lawns, four pools, endless hiking paths, horseback riding trails, tennis courts, yoga, and fabulous dining at the Addison – a five star diamond restaurant.
What else do I love about it?
European Architecture
Well, coming from Italy, European architecture is one of my passions. The Grand del Mar combines the aesthetics of Venice, Rome and Florence. The red burnt Siena-of the walls reminds me of the colors of Rome. Some of the pathways are lined with Roman pine trees and others with Tuscan cypress. Fountains…. fountains everywhere,. beautifully designed and embellished with white marble and horse motifs.
The Gazebo on the grounds is perfect for your vows with a beautiful long fountains behind it. For those who prefer a religious ceremony, there is a lovely chapel on site. Every corner is picture perfect.
I would suggest a late afternoon wedding to capture the gorgeous sunset. Have a romantic dinner for two at the Fairmont’s Addition Restaurant.. Definitely order a quaint romantic cake l – just for two, or three or four!
What to wear
I would choose a blush pink, or pale beige gown to the compliment the surroundings. Go, short and sweet Audrey Hepburn-style or wear something long and flowing. For flowers, think elegant peach tone, roses, peonies, whatever is in season. The groom could consider substituting a pale gray, beige or khaki-colored suit instead of the predictable black.. Why not a polka dotted bow-tie if it’s his r style, or a Great Gatsby look?
Honeymoon
You can honeymoon here, as well. The location offers many nearby day trips. You can surf on the beach, visit San Diego’s historic, Gas Lamp district or rent a convertible and drive along the 101 stopping for coffee or lunch at charming beach towns like Del Mar or Solana Beach. Watch the seals at the nature reserve in nearby La Jolla and then venture out to visit the town’s numerous art galleries and excellent restaurants.. One of my favorites is the San Diego is the National Geographic Gallery in San Diego – a must see if you are an art buff.
And why not schedule your newlywed photographs the day after on one of the gorgeous local beaches?
