A Family Session in Rome.
Rome is an open museum and everyone marvels by the eternal city’s beauty. Both young and old. { Rome Italy family Portrait photography }
As a destination photographer, I have to say that for amazing, majestic backdrops for your photographs, Rome is hard to beat as it offers so much history, layers, and textures.
The colors of the buildings are all umbers, ochres. All earth tones. So it is easy to dress for Rome. I do advise on avoiding brands, logos and try to over a dress a bit. Rome is a formal city so dress it up. Get your hair done (makeup as well, if possible) and pull out your high heels if that is your style.
Even though I have Italian & American citizenship and have lived most of my life in Rome, I love to keep a fresh “tourist” eye and relive the art and beauty over and over again through the eyes or whoever I am photographing.
For this family, they stayed at the Hassler’s penthouse which has the most fantastic terrace which not only overlooks all of Rome (best view ever), but you can also have a bird’s eye view of Trinita dei Monti’s two twin cupolas. You can almost touch them.
They visited Rome from Florida.
The images below look like I got lucky and nobody was around. However, I know Rome’s heartbeat and know the ins & outs of the city like the inside of my pockets.
Like most photoshoots, I plan them very strategically, especially when shooting in the eternal city. Rome can be challenging especially for photographs and their backdrops as it can get super crowded. So when I plan itineraries here, I choose locations depending n the season, day of the week, time of day and weather. As you can see in the photographs below, it looks like we are the only ones in the city!
Rome is one of the hardest places to shoot if you don’t know the ins and outs of this metropolitan city. But it is hands down the most beautiful places for photographs with architectural backdrops.
The fountain dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of Four Rivers), in Piazza Navona, was designed by Bernini in the 1600s.
For upcoming travel shoots, I am usually in Italy/Europe in the Spring and Autumn. In the Winter and Summer, I am based in California and available for shoots in California, Southwest, Kauai and Mexico. And yes, I love to travel!
