Alice In Wonderland Photoshoot for Easter

Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite books so when I was asked to photograph this shoot, I jumped on the occasion. Inspired and styled for Easter, the photoshoot took a spin on Carroll’s chapter of The Tea Party. As in the story, the whole table was an extravaganza and a feast for the little kiddos filled with delicious pastries, florals, and colorful Easter eggs. A treat for all the senses.

The dreamy palette was a mixture of soft pastels accented with bold color. Pink tulle, blueberry tarts and mini donuts and colorful flower arrangements. Fit for Alice’s sweet tooth the table had macarons, rice cakes for each of their guests. (The photographer especially loved the blueberry tarts and color).

Usually, I’m not a fan of styled shoots as I don’t really like styled “posing” or “posers.” I like real. Real emotions, real stories, real people. Sure, I love a decorated and styled background to complement each story. When I do have a model, I will ‘unpose” them; I incorporate their real-story with the appropriate scene to tell story. The key-word here is a real authentic.

But with children, it’s different because they are so very natural. You can’t pose them even if you wanted to. Photographing children is where my passion for portraits began way back when and it’s a great starting point for any photographer. You learn a lot about photography by photographing children.  It doesn’t get more real then this.

When photographing children, rule number one is you must enter their world,  at their time to connect with them.

The second rule, they are all over the place as they never sit still. You have to quickly change your camera settings and learn all about the correct exposure. The settings can change in a matter of seconds.

Photographing children is the most challenging but the most rewarding. I believe if you can photograph children you can photograph anything.

This Alice in Wonderland themed shoot was perfect as it’s always a pleasure entering a child’s world and going back to the basics.  The teamwork was exceptional and a pleasure working with such talented group of girls (scroll down to see collaborators).
