Destination Wedding in Venice, Italy
On St. Patrick’s Day, 2012, a man named Yama walked into a bar and struck up a conversation with a mysterious cocktail waitress. He asked where she was from and she gave him three attempts to guess or he would have to buy her a drink. By the end of the night they had enjoy several together.
A few years later, Yama surprised his cocktail waitress girlfriend, Tinka, with a spontaneous trip to Luray Caverns, Virginia. While deep within the dark cave, Yama got down on one knee and proposed. Yama’s nervousness made Tinka anxious as well and they both nearly fainted.
“I blame the low elevation,” Tinka jokes.
For a happy-go-lucky couple that enjoys traveling, a destination elopement in Venice made perfect sense. Venezia, La Serenissima, Queen of the Adriatic, Venice was the perfect background for the ruby-haired bride and her debonair groom. While strolling through the Piazza San Marco (or San Marcos Square) Yama and Tinka made friends with a few locals: namely a few pigeons who took a liking to Tinka’s palm and shoulder. The couple then climbed aboard a gondola for a romantic ride through the city.
Tinka noted in a written interview with Cheever that she is obsessed with taking pictures. Tinka claimed that every time she looks back at a picture she is immediately transported back to the time and place it happened. She said she was very excited for the shoot, noting that it would be a way to relive the day forever.
Venice is known for its scenic gondola rides, masked parties, and Gothic architecture, but for Tinka and Yama, Venice will always be the romantic background for their extra special day. The photographs of their elopement in The Floating City will continue to bring the couple memories of joy, laughter, and most of all amore.
