California Photography and my California Disclosure
California is my second home. My main base is Italy. Rome to be precise.
I was born in the US through American parents, raised in Italy. I was less than a year old when my parents moved to Italy.
My Mom was born in Los Angeles and most of her family live in California mainly the San Diego area. She had nine siblings, so I have tons of cousins, Aunts & Uncles scattered all over there.
To make a long story short, I am actually the only member of my immediate family left in Italy and family pressure is high for me to move there too. Everyone has moved back to the States mostly in California. But I am also the only artist in the family, and there is no place like Italy for art, at least to me. And Art, is what makes my heart tick:)
Throughout the years, I have always travelled a few times a year to California to see everyone and that is why I call it a second home.
AND…the big news is, if everything goes to according to my ideal plan, beginning 2015-2016, I will begin living six months in States and six months here in Italy. I will be in Italy for the high season from May-October and then in California from November-April (or at least as a base as I intend to travel). I feel like I will finally have the best of both worlds. And as an extra bonus, I will have sunshine year round. I am looking forward to it!
California to me, besides family, is my place for peace. The nature. The smell of the Pacific. The Dolphins., seagulls, seashells,. The gigantic and powerful ocean waves. The endless white sandy beaches. The empty space. The surfers. The healthy juice & salad bars. The daily magical sunsets that manage to stop everyone right where they are and then have them gravitate to the beach like a collective ritual to end the day.
Rome is dynamic and I LOVE it. The art enters me like symbiosis and I owe all I know about Art mostly from having been raised in Italy. The Masters, Michelangelo, Renaissance, color, composition, design, texture, the list is endless. The Eternal City can at times, if you live here, get intense and I have always had a need to escape after a certain amount of time and have the need recharge my batteries so I return to California.
And vice versa, after being in California after a certain amount of time, I need my Italy. The art. The food. The culture. The language. The Roman humor. The sense of style and fashion. The Italian romantic way of life. My Italian friends and yes, even the chaos.
To end this “big disclosure,” I have posted some photographs I recently captured of “La Mia Bella California.” A collection of photographs of my favorite beaches, places and life in general.
My next visit to California is this coming April 2015. I will be also be building a stronger California portfolio, so if you are interested in a photo session, please email me.
I also am happy to meet and collaborate with florists, stylists and planners and create a styled shoot. And of course, I would love to meet up with fellow local photographers.
