This Santorini Elopement is Totally Breathtaking:
All you need is you, your groom, and views like these.
Sofia Melograno and Kevin Henrick first met at a friend’s birthday in April of 2013. “We became friends, but I was about to move to South Africa for the summer for a job, so it didn’t become romantic yet,” Sophia says. But when she got back to New York City, the two soon started dating. A year later, on Christmas Eve in Santa Barbara, Sofia couldn’t understand why Kevin would not take off his winter vest. “It was December, but it was also 75 degrees out,” she remembers. The reason (of course!) was that he had a ring inside!
Since they have family spread from coast to coast, Sofia and Kevin always knew they wanted to elope instead of asking everyone to travel. “We love to explore new places, and a romantic trip to Greece seemed like the perfect opportunity to have an elopement,” she says. So that’s what they did on September 27, 2016, when they exchanged vows at Andronis Suites in Oia, with just their photographer, Rochelle Cheever, in tow.
If you’ve ever considered nixing the guest list in favor of something more intimate, this Santorini elopement might just be the convincing you’ve been looking for.
The bride didn’t want to distract from their stunning setting, so she kept her attire simple and neutral, ultimately choosing a draped ivory gown from Theia. “I wanted something that was Grecian and flow-y, that really fit in with the scenery,” Sofia says. Her bouquet featured colorful local flowers including roses, herbs, and berries.
Sofia and Kevin wrote their own vows. “I wasn’t expecting to be so emotional, but I was in tears as Kevin read his vows to me,” she remembers. Thankfully they had a few lighthearted moments, too. “The officiant was in a full white suit that looked like it was out of Saturday Night Fever, and his accent was so thick neither of us could understand him,” the bride says, laughing.
