VENEZIA!
Venice & I have a L-O-N-G “love history” together.
One of the many benefits of having been raised in Italy, was (& still is) the opportunity to travel so easily and extensively throughout Italy & Europe. Everything is so close. In half an hour, you can be in an Etruscan or Medieval Town, in 2 hours you can be in another country.
Quick flashback: Both my parents, US Citizens, came to Italy when I was just an infant. In fact, my little brother was born in Rome where we were mostly raised.
Luckily, my parents were big on traveling and whenever we weren’t going back home to US on our school vacations, we would hop on a plane, train or car and go somewhere.
{BACK TO VENICE}
I remember my mom loved Venice a lot and she would often take me to the Lido, sometimes just the two of us leaving “the guys” (my brothers & Dad) at home. We would be picked up by a classic Italian wooden “RIVA” boat which would take us to the Lido. I was fascinated by all the canels, Palazzi, Gondola’s and colors.
Yes, Venice’s beauty will attract even a little girl (in the “Barbi Doll & Ken” stage ~ I know, I know Kitsch but true…)
As I grew older, I went to Venice on a few love escapades (with real Ken) staying at the Danieli and drinking cappucini & aperitivi at the one & only Florian Cafe at San Marco’s square with my to-be husband (also Italo-American & raised in Rome).
I also often returned during College as I was getting my BFA to study Art History (minor) with some student friends – strolling around Venice to study its vast Art Collection from Tinoretto to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
Luckily, in just an approximate 3-hour lovely train ride from Majestic Rome, you can reach quaint jewel-like Venice. Thus making a quick trip very do-able.
